I’m an ADHD-fuelled creative photographer, scribbler, soul-listener, and biscuit supplier to a beautiful adopted dog named Billy. I live in the Austrian mountains, making cards that carry emotion, whimsy, and a little wildness. Sunday May 11thThis week, I built a card shop with a dog beside me and a deadline that wouldn’t wait.Not because I love pressure - but because rent doesn’t pause for pacing, and biscuits don’t buy themselves.So I worked. Long days, some sleepless nights, coffee-fuelled and full of quiet determination. No lightbox arrived, so the card photography plan went out the window. I carried on anyway.In the background, I wrote to tourism agencies, museums, boutique hotels - anything that might buy me a little breathing room.There’s a whisper of possibility now - maybe an exhibition in Salzburg, so if you're curious what I see when I’m not drawing or making cards, you’ll find that story over at The ICM Diaries (link below).And if building these sites has taught me anything, it’s that I love building websites - especially for people who feel like the tech world isn’t made for them.I will call it Simple Sites by Alex. It’s gentle, clean, and done with the same care I bring to everything here.This week was hard. But it was human. And it reminded me why I do this at all:

To stay.

Saturday 10th May 2025 - This Is WhyBilly didn’t enter my life like a happy ending. He arrived like a storm - silent, starved, and broken.A Spanish Podenco, bred for hunting and discarded like scrap. When I picked him up from his foster family, who had already done so much for him, he weighed less than 10kg. He should have been nearly twice that.He didn’t eat. He didn’t drink. For 24 hours, he simply shut down.He used my apartment as a toilet - not to be defiant, but because fear overruled everything else. He walked beside me or behind me, tail tucked tight, ears pressed flat. No sniffing, no exploring. Just survival.I gave him time, like I’ve done with every rescue before him. I didn’t push. I didn’t pull. I gave him space and quiet. And eventually, he found the sofa. Eventually, he ate. Eventually, he accepted me - but not affection. Not yet. I was tolerated, not trusted. That was okay. His timeline, not mine.But many weeks passed, and I began to see what no one had quite said aloud. Billy wasn’t just shy. He was traumatised - deeply and completely.He couldn’t be left alone. He was reactive to other dogs - lunging and barking, pure fear. He was terrified of flies. In enclosed spaces, they sent him into a panic that turned his stomach to chaos and left him trembling for days.Trainers couldn’t reach him. I cancelled photo jobs, then cancelled again. Eventually, the calls stopped coming. Shopping was done by friends. Day trips disappeared. I lived in a world reduced by love, and made smaller still by duty.And yet…I stay. Because what he needs isn’t a fix. It's someone who won’t give up.Today, he can stay home for twenty minutes. That’s monumental. He’s gained weight. He has a favourite spot on the sofa. He tolerates my friends, even if he doesn’t care for them. He sleeps with both eyes closed now.He eats special food. Expensive food. Because so much of who he is comes from how he started - from his mother, from her fear, from a world that never treated him gently.And me? I have ADHD, late-diagnosed, and no roadmap for this life we now share. I can’t go back to how things were so I’ve built something new, with paper and pixels and a biscuit jar.This little card shop, Ink & Echo, is how I keep my promise: You’re safe now, Billy, I won’t leave.It’s how I'm trying to survive too. A traumatised dog and a scribble-hearted human, making beauty out of broken bits.We’re still here. Thanks for being here with us.

Each shape, swirl and brush of colour stitched itself together from whatever I was feeling that day - no map, no rules, just motion and mood.

Made with alcohol ink and a whole lot of wonder, they lean into joy.

These scribbles come from the glorious chaos of a brain that doesn't follow straight lines. They're little nods to the daily dance of distraction, hyperfocus, forgotten cups of coffee, and the occasional triumph.

Drawing Billy is like trying to draw love itself.
I’m not an artist in the traditional sense, and drawing dogs is hard, but Billy is harder still. His lines aren’t clear. His story is tangled. But I try.
These cards are soft scribbles of the dog who changed everything. They’re not perfect, just like him. Just like us.

Each card begins with a story - drawn by hand. The image is printed on 290gsm professional photo paper and mounted by hand onto 350gsm premium card stock, giving it a beautifully weighted, tactile feel.Every card is made one by one, by me, and shipped by me - no mass production, no outsourcing, just a human touch from start to finish.Available in A5 or A6 depending on the design, each card comes with an envelope and is protected in a recycled plastic sleeve.Where a story is part of the image, a hand-signed printed copy is tucked inside - so the tale travels with the card, from my hands to yours.

BILLY AND ME
THE FACE BEHIND MY WHYI was born in the UK to German-speaking parents and moved to Austria in 2006. Dogs have been part of my life for as long as I can remember - there’s never really been a 'me' without a four-legged shadow.In 2007, after the loss of my beloved Weimaraner, Marley, I began to look into Spanish dog rescue. What I found was utterly horrifying - and impossible to unsee. Since then, I’ve adopted four Spanish hunting dogs. Podencos - they are called 'the great forgotten.' All are abandoned. All come with histories I'm sure we humans couldn't handle the details of. Billy is my fourth - and by far the most traumatised.He’s reactive to other dogs and he can’t be left alone. He doesn’t know what safety feels like yet, not completely. We live in the countryside, which helps. But we don’t go places. Not really.And so, I stay.Before Billy came into my life, I worked as a photographer. But with him, everything changed. Dog trainers gave up on us and clients gave up on me. I didn’t. We’re doing this our own way now - slowly, kindly, one biscuit at a time.Two years ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD. When my therapist asked what else I did creatively - besides photography - I didn’t have an answer. That night, I downloaded Procreate and started drawing. I had never drawn a thing in my life. But it made me laugh. It gave my restless brain something soft to hold.Eventually, someone suggested I turn my work into cards. So I did.And now here we are - in this little online shop I also made myself, woven together by love, images and ink. Everything you see here is made by my hands. Every card is printed, folded, packed and posted by me - each one a small echo of the life I’m building for us, slowly, from the inside out.With Billy at my feet.This shop is how I am trying to keep the promise I made to him:You’re safe now.
